Judging from the fact that thousands of camcorders go through metal detectors EVERY SINGLE DAY at airports all over the world and not one single camcorder has been destroyed in the process....yeah, I'd say 'no'.

I travel all the time... If a laptop, cell phone, digital camera, DVD player and some other electronics can survive it I would say a camcorder will be fine.
