I know bread is bad for any birds because it expands in their belly when consumed. Do you know of any food that is safe to give to them?

The ducks will eat those pesky slugs and snails, and the geese will control your overgrown grass. Ducks and geese will eat almost any plant, especially if it is the only vegetation around. The following plants seem to be the most indestructible and hardy if planted in a waterfowl pen:

In their pen: ground ivy (Glechoma hederacea), silverweed (Potentilla anserina), camomile species (Matricaria), large leafed butterbur (Petasites).
On pond edge: day lilies (Hemercallis), yellow iris (Iris pseudacorus), tall perennial grass euialia (miscanthus).
For nests: stinging nettle, butterur and smartweed
Protection from wind and sun: Low growing conifers, Chinese Juniper, Dwarf Pine

Well, I always feed the condo's wild geese and ducks with bread, and they all keep coming back... If you want to try another alternative, go to a pet store. They'll be able to sell you a special mix for birds, mostly whole grains.

If I were you I would go to a feed store and get non-medicated wild game pellets. That way they can eat them, and you know that you wont accidently kill any other bird by your good deed. Have fun!

they ought to plot on no longer being waiting to apply this porch for a lengthy time period. The goose mum and dad will want to safeguard the nest and the children. do not hassle about preserving or feeding the children. the mummy and dad will guard them, until eventually you've a resident fox or racoon that needs to thieve the eggs.

You can feed them greens. "Duck Pellets" are available from commercial feed suppliers. You can soak them up a bit to soften them or sprinkle them into the pond...
