talk to your Dr and then do what will make you feel comfortable.....if you'd rather be awake and the Dr says that's fine then do it...also talk to your Dr and see if you can talk to the staff or anesthesiologist about your fears......good luck

Talk to your doctor. If he says you need a C-section do a spinal block so you are awake. You will feel better and there is not as much risk, you will also get to see the baby right away. If you can try for a VBAC but be aware if it does not work they will have to do an emergency c-section but you can still have a spinal block then also.
As for Toxemia you know the symptoms so just watch out for it because you may not get it this time. good luck. If you want support also try webmd for high risk pregnancy message board.

The only "cure" for toxemia is delivery. Your doctor will monitor your baby's progress throughout the pregnancy & once the doctor decides that the baby is developed enough to deliver, he will schedule your c-section. The doctor will want to deliver the baby as early as possible. I had an emergency c-section with my 5 year old, but no toxemia. Good luck! Keep a positive attitude. Visualize the procedure (c-section) going smoothly & visualize being happy & healthy with a happy & healthy new baby.

Well with my first c-section I was awake and with my second one I was out because it was an emergency c-section. So I have had both and I would much prefer to be awake. The main reason is so you can see the baby before every one else does lol. But your dr always plays a major part in the decision. But I believe most dr's would prefer you to be awake if at all possible. Good luck and Congratulations.

Are you sure you have to have a c-section? There is such a thing as VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section). Nowadays, c-sections are cut horizontally across the abodomen/uterus, making the scarring less obvious, and not weaking the uterus/ab muscles as much, making it possible to give birth vaginally after having a c-section. (Back in the day [and still today in some foreign countries] c-section incisions were cut vertically...from your navel to your pubic bone. This weakened the uterus greatly and when most women attempted to have a VBAC, they ruptured their uteruses.) Why did your doc. tell you you are going to have a c-section? How can he know for sure so soon?

I would have them put me to sleep if I were in your shoes BUT...then again you might now even HAVE to have a c-section. Also who says you will get toxemia with this one?

Stay awake, being put under can risk your life and your baby's life, If your doctor is any good she will plan the c-section early and give you an exact due date.

Be awake then you can see the baby as soon as they take him/her out. I was awake with both and I'm glad I did. I got to see both my babies as soon as they were born just like I would have if I delivered vaginally.
