First you have to go to yahoo and click on mail and fill out your info.

If you signed up properly it should be as easy as clicking on your e-mail link, putting in your ID and password, click on submit or OK whichever it is, and then your e-mail account will open.
If you have Yahoo! Messenger, there is an e-mail link right on the IM main window. Depending on the version you have it is either at the bottom or at the middle. It looks like an envelope. If you have new mail a yellow light will show beside it, rather like a sunshine raidiating from the envelope. Click on the envelope and you will be taken to either your account or a page to put in your ID and password.
If you go into Messenger-Preferances-General tab. On this tab place a check in the box "automatically sign me in when I click a Yahoo! link in Messenger". This will automatically sign you into your e-mail account when you click the envelope link to your e-mail. You will not need to stop at the sign in page. However, if you are sharing the computer with others you may not want to check this box as others could easily get into your mail account. If you do not share then go ahead and check this box as it makes things so much easier. Which ever Yahoo site you click for you are automatically signed in. I really like the auto sign in preferance.
If you have the Yahoo! Toolbar, there is a link for your mail account there too. Just click on it and you will be taken to your account. If you did not choose the auto sign in, you wil first have to enter your ID and Password. You can have the computer remember your ID by clicking the "remember my ID on this computer" underneath the ID and password area.
