Ok first of all, this is not a hate question or comment, I just want to get some answers: Why is it that many Americans (not all Americans of course), answer to people that have a problem with their country's behaviour, such as wars and greed, in an arrogant AND ignorant way such as 'i love my country and !"£$ you all' or 'we are the best'. I mean, if technically almost EVERYONE hated my country, I would sit back and think first...there must be a good reason, or even if not good, just a reason.. instead of supporting my country blindly. I am Greek by the way, living in the UK and I always talk and make comments about the negative elements of my country. P.S. I have many American friends, some of them are quite liberal and some of them are really fundamental patriots and Christians so I dont hate anyone, I just wanted to make a comment on this behaviour adopted by a large number of Americans.

Obviously, someone might say, that many people would support their country blindly and not Americans only, but no other country is hated as much as the US at the moment.

sassyk, allied forces helped indeed, but not because of the warmth in their hearts...they asked for every single golden bar the UK had in return...

Guys, the fact that people want to migrate to the US is not because they love the sights, its just a better life, money wise...thats why there are ghettos all over the states...no one likes each other and it is mutual. If they had a choice, trust me, they would stay in their countries. It is a bit ludicrous yo use this as an argument and you know it. We have a lot of Albanians queuing up to come and live in Greece, but we know that they dont do it because of their love for Greece...

fiddle mike, I really doubt that you can point Greece on the map...And for your information, Greece is a friend to the west.

Because they cannot find a way to justify the actions of our government. These are also the people who tell me to move to Iraq because I have a dissenting opinion. Don't get me wrong, I love my country. But I cannot say that I am too proud of the actions of my government or of its ignorant citizens.

If you are looking for just one simple answer, you will not find it considering the depth of your question. In some cases, many respond in such an arrogant way due to the relentless hounding on the US by others abroad. Indeed, arrogant debasing of the US has left a number of people tired of trying to explain positions, and as a result they take the easy and effortless way out.

In other cases, the person or persons in question were brought up to respect their country and hold it in the highest regard. Any question that suggests that the US acts in a dishonorable manner is interpreted as an insult, not only to the country, but to themselves.

This can all be expounded upon further, but you get the idea.

As an American, I do not understand why we are so hated. We have come to the aid of country after country after country. Yes, we are not perfect but name another country that has spent more money, invested more resources, and truly tried to make the world a better place than the United States. There isn't one! Our people are free. Free even to disagree with our own Government with no fear. Every time a country gets into trouble, whether it be a natural disaster or internal issues, the United States is there to help.

I do not believe in "the best". I think we are all doing our best to get through life as difficult as it can be these days. Many people, yourself included truly love their own country I am sure. I reserve the right to still love mine even with all it's faults.

We ARE the best. In the short 200+ years we have been a country, we've acheived more than any other country in the world. Lets see, lets start with aviation. Started in France, perfected here. We've put men on the moon, built a shuttle system to explore outer space. Discovered medical breakthroughs, and have all but wiped out diseases like Polio, whooping cough, scarlet fever etc.... We built the Panama Canal. SAVED Europe, not once but TWICE, only to be spit on by those who don't remember. We are the most generous of nations, giving more to charities world wide than any other country. We are the first to respond to natural disasters, we are the first to be asked for help and yet are the first to be "slapped" You say EVERYONE hates us. If EVERYONE hates us, why are so many trying to live here? What other country in the world has as many immigrants trying to get in? We have the best higher education. I've seen some of your answers, you say YOU don't hate anyone, you sure sound like you have it for US Americans. Maybe you should hang out with a few good conservatives and get a different perspective. Hey! I got an idea, come to the US for a visit. See for yourself. I'd LOVE to show you around this GREAT COUNTRY. God Bless the USA!

An Italian and a Greek were discussing the history of their countries. The Greek said "We invented Democracy" The Italian said "We invented the Arts" They went back and forth on the achievments of their ancestors.
The Greek finally said, "We invented sex!"
The Italian said "Yes, but we introduced it to women"

I've read through the previous answers, and what I find is so striking is what is repeated over and over and over. Americans tend to be arrogant and ignorant because they have not had an opportunity for a more balanced education. They are taught about America but not about the rest of the world. As a Canadian, I am astounded at the inane questions asked about my country as well as the incredibly stupid comments made about us. These are based on total ignorance.

It's frustrating to listen to one group say disrespectful and incorrect comments about another, and it seems as if so many Americans say that about so many other countries. Americans must be awfully strong to take on the burden of always being right.

Why does the US have a waiting list of people wanting to come over? Last time I checked there were not boat loads of people showing up on France's coastline. You hate what you do not understand. Do you remember the news reels of the Katrina victims. That is real America, not Paris Hilton and George Bush. Get a clue then call us back.

I appreciate your question. I think its like having a child. Being a parent, I get angry at my children, and call them lazy and so on, but if someone outside the family says something negative about my children, I really get mad.
Some of the countries the US has helped in the past, (France) a good example, turned their back on us. We have helped them so many times. Alot of European countries would have been under German control had it not been for the Allied forces. It really bites, that people have forgotten that. We have a president now that is not liked by most Americans, but he is still our president.

Wow that is a hard question, I am not sure even now which way to go with that one. I think that I am here and I live and I try not to get caught in all the headache that is going on around here. I have a lot of things that I disagree with but I will not be leaving so i just chill and deal with what is going on directly with me. And if by supporting your company blindly means that you would give your life that one is also kinda not 100% true with me, I will protect my home and loved ones.

America is the one remaining "Superpower". As such, we make the biggest target. We are the ones the world looks to to solve everyone's problems. And when we mess up, because of our free press, we hang our "dirty laundry" out for all to see. Nobody ever bothers to criticize, openly, all of the other countries in the world that have horrendous human rights records and are executing people everyday. But, because we are the "home of the free, land of the brave...", we're held to a higher standard, (not that I believe we shouldn't be).
Sure we're an easy target. But I still believe that if you want freedom, and an opportunity to make something of yourself, we're still hard to beat.

Look at the questions that are asked, Hate begets Hate.

Second, a phenomenon happens when someone is on line or in chat rooms..the weak think they can become powerful. Few of the people on these pages would behave the same face to face. This is entertainment for them.

Third, you can not infer from these types of media that there is a large number of Americans that act this way.

Maybe none of it is true. You get your beliefs or understandings from the media. Praise or thanks or kind actions aren't newsworthy. But protests, violence and negative opinions sell very well.

The reason I bring this up is because if we are so hated, as the world seems to believe, then why is there a waiting list of people who want to come here and millions flocking here illegally? I certainly would not want to enter a country and become a citizen if they were the most hated nation on the planet.
