Because the alternative was that communist traitor, Kerry.
This is actually a big problem. The republicaans are feeling free to do whatever the hell they want (which is, unfortunately, to ignore their constituents) because the democrats keep fielding criminals, traitors and various evil people as candidates. You'd have to be freakin' nuts to vote democrat these days.
If you don't like it, then purge your party of the radical left.

It's been almost 6 years since he was high profile in the news. I would have thought you could have figured out how to properly spell 'Dubya' by now.
And that 'stupid' Dubya had higher entrance test scores to Yale than fellow Eli, John Kerry.
And Dubya's previous opponent had flunked out of divinity school because he was busy getting high. Gore went to divinity school to escape his full tour in Vietnam.
So, in comparison, he was still the smartest candidate out there.
