...right to do with her body what she chooses, then shouldn't we legalize prostitution?

2006-06-07 05:15:55 · 38 answers · asked by ♠Brian♠ 3 in Politics & Government Politics

The point is banning abortion is not infringing on a woman's right to do with her body as she chooses. No one is telling her she can't shave her head and tattoo a lizard on her face. We are saying we believe it to be murder so it is wrong. Liberals are saying it is not murder and it is OK. Let's get past the BS of a woman's right...it's not a woman's right to kill another life.

I totally agree with you. Thats why the pro-choice point of view is seriously flawed. They try to put all the emphasis on the woman but nobody thinks about the baby involved. What about the baby's right to choose to live?

But anyway - i guess prostitution has been illegal for the fact that its "dirty" and something people don't want to be around thier clean neighborhoods and stuff. But hey - who knows in 10 - 15 years what this country will legalize!

This question has often been asked in social studies before.

You say by legalizing prostitution it could be controlled? Think again. Many legal businesses are conducting illegal transactions. What more of prostitution?
Legalizing prostitution would cause a a huge ripple in society. Underage prostition would run rampant - it's not that hard to fake ages - so will white slavery. Not every woman sex worker does it voluntarily. The exploited, the oppressed, the downtrodden, will double, triple, quadruple in number. Sexually transmitted disease will affect millions, even billions more than it already had.

The thing is, though, not infringing on a woman's rights to have abortion and legalizing prostitution are NOT parallel. These are two things which cannot be logically compared.

I'm actually more opposed to abortion than prostitution, for the arguement you are stating.

The question as to whether & when abortion might be right should be a scientific question!

WHEN DOES LIFE BEGIN!

Before life begins -
It is OBVIOUSLY a woman's right to have an abortion.

After life begins -
It is OBVIOUSLY killing a human to have an abortion.

Not that makes things simple, but that should be the basis of the argument.

Prostitution, on the otherhand, IS about choice. I think prostitution is wrong, bad & unhealthy. But even if prostitution is a BAD choice, it should still be a LEGAL choice.

And I also feel we could limit & control prostitution better if it were legal. Child prostitution would be easier to find & stop. Prostitutes could more easily report rapists as Johns could report on theft. We could mandate STD checks. And lets not forget additional revenue for Uncle Sam!

Again, I think prostitution is a disgusting choice, but it should still be the individuals choice in a free society.

A baby, on the other hand, doesn't have a choice.

That is a great logical argument. I agree that a woman should have the right to control her body and abort a fetus as long as it is done within the laws, and a woman should have the right to make money through prostitution as long as it is done within the laws.

Prostitution is legal in some counties in Nevada which make it safer for the woman and the patron because she most receive regular medical exams from certified county doctors. Countries in Europe also have laws regulating legal abortion.

Here is a turn on your original argument. If a fetus cannot live outside the mother's body in the first two or three months of pregnancy, is it any different than a kidney or other organ that could be removed if the woman suffered from a medical condition?

this can be a profession it they would like it to be. the problem is that the government haven't figured out a way to tax it and put a market value to it. our country tries to be moral but a lot of the laws are based on the dollar. if the women wants to put a price on her beauty and her body that is her business and her choice to do so. it is not the prostitution that i have a problem with, it is the pimps and the wanna be pimps that prey on our young and naive girls that know nothing about that lifestyle. i don't believe that they should be allowed to recruit the way they do and someone should be watching to make sure there are no underage girls involved. maybe if they legalize the business and give them health insurance so they can have regular checkups and treatments, psych evaluations then the std rate won't be as high. they would also need to have someone that would audit regularly and the ones that are not following the guidleines with documentation with a verfiable docter, they should be the ones arrested. don't get me wrong i still think that it is a nasty and disrespectful.

There is no good reason for it not to be. If it were legalized, it could be regulated which would make it safer for the women (and MEN) who participate in it. Just like other businesses/activities, adults are free to or not to participate.

I think people who prostitutes are hypocritical. They have no idea under what circumstances many of the women are living, and worse, many "Bible thumpers" behave worse in secret (or have secret fantasies) about the very things they are so vocal against.

It's all a joke. i don't care what two consenting adults do with one another if it's not harming them.

Legal Prostitution = Aids epidemic

If they legalize prostitution than Cat houses or Bunny Ranches would be set up everywhere. Then all the prostitutes would have to report all their earnings to the government, and pay taxes. That's no fun is it. Just the same if they legalize marijuana. Then the government would tax it.

Yes, and by extension all drugs should be made legal, if you have the "right" to do whatever you want with your body. Also, the "right" to not wear a seat belt.

There are many laws that govern what we can and can't do with our own bodies. This is a poor justification for abortion if you ask me.

NO!! Prostitution also infringes on others rights. For instance, if a man or woman picks up a prostitute and they happen to be married. They sleep with them then go home and sleep with there spouse. That infringes on their spouses rights to monogomous relationship. Pluse there is the threat of AIDS, and other diseases.

Both issues are moral. Is murder ok? Is Prostitution ok? One is based as an opposite to the other, you can't have it your way all the time.

They are opposites because of the way you present your argument, the right to choose (Prostitution / Abortion) In my OPINION, neither is right or acceptable. So in my eyes your argument looses it's point value because I would vote to outlaw both.
