When I saw "Clerks" for the first time I was 18. Given the content of the movie of coarse it was very appealing. I also was a clerk in a video store so I related to the movie a lot and yes often quoted phrases from the movie ALL the time at work, in bars, and just hanging around. (I think every hardcore fan of this movie did the same) This went on for years actually. A rebirth of it happened every time Kevin Smith did another movie with his beloved characters. In fact the BEST Halloween EVER was when I dressed as Jay (circa Clerks) and my friend was Silent Bob (circa, well ANY) ahh memories...uh Anyway, you almost felt a responsibility to catch up on these characters constantly. It was fun stuff.

But now much like the characters in this new Clerks movie, I've grown older. I am post-college days, and I'm 28. I find "making fun of pop-culture" just as lame as "being excited about it". There are friends I have that still have “the tude", (if you have it, you understand) but it's just depressing.

I WANT to get excited about Clerks 2. I WISH I still cared about Dante & Randall, and freaked when Jay & Bob bust in on screen...but I can't. Not like the ol' days. If this came out between 1995-2001, I would have been in line, in costume, arguing over who was more a fan of Smith's work and played trivia with dorks wearing "Bezerker" T-shirts...but I can't.

I am not criticizing the movie, the sequel, or Kevin Smith. I just out grew the jokes. Kevin is giving a new generation of Jay's, Brody's, and Dante's a piece of the franchise. Have at it kiddo's, but remember our version was better...and in B&W.

I have to say that your question really touches my heart. I am 17 now going to be 18 in July and I got into the View Askewniverse nearly a year ago. I first watched Clerks and began to love the movie! Even if it was black and white the story is what was awesome about it along with the dialog! I then myself started to quote lines from the movie! From Clerks I went on to Chasing Amy! When I saw Chasing Amy I began to have a favorite character: Banky Edwards! From there I went onto Dogma then the Clerks animated series. They both were historical and highly quotable! Finally I saw Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back! When I saw this just from the little role he has in the movie I began to be a fan of Brodie Bruce! Lastly after waiting for the 10th Anniversary Edition of Mallrats I ordered it directly from the Secret Stash signed by Kevin Smith! I instantly fell in love with the movie! It is my favorite movie! I from then on became a die hard Brodie fan! Quoting and acting like him,(I'm still looking for my Rene though...). I then began to spread the word of Mallrats to my friends and family! Out of all of this I never saw one of these movies in theaters,(having been to young to see them at the time of the debuts). When I heard Clerks 2 was being made and was going to be released in theaters everywhere I jumped for joy! I finally would be able to see a View Askewniverse film in theatres!!! I am counting down the days till it's debut! Then today I happen upon your question or rather statement and It hurts me. I know that the original Clerks will probably be a better movie than Clerks 2, but you don't know that for sure! I think that you should go to see it in theatres and support it and give it a chance before you put it down! That is what I think. I just wanted to put all of this backstory to a new fan to an older more wiser fan. Please just give my answer some consideration.

I'm 26 and I think all Kevin Smith's movies are great! I'd go see Clerks 2, no problem! And I used to be a clerk as well, for a bit in a book store and then in a bakery and I definitely related to the movie as well, but I still enjoy the film and my clerking days are long over hehehehehe

Look the only reason this movie was made is because Jason Mewes quit the drug and got clean, as kevin smith had promised him this after jay and silent bob. So please people stop acussing him of just doing it for the money.
Kevin Smith has never gone wrong before (and I included jersey girl (after a couple of watchs when you don't expect Jay and bob humour).

It may all be about taste and such and growing out of films but until you see it don't slate it

ps he even talk to people on myspace he is a really nice guy

I'm with you on almost everything. I heard about the movie and was pretty excited until I remembered why I liked the first one. It's just not that funny to me anymore, but my younger cousin should love it. Maybe KS matured the content, but then, would it be considered Clerks 2? Ah, to be young and not give a S*!t again.

This is the absolute first I've heard of Clerks 2, no frickin' way. I completely agree with you and resemble a lot of what you wrote. However, Kev did sell out ( for that matter "still selling out"), but you're right, good for him. Besides, he needs all that money to keep Jason off the crack.
