There are two basic parts to a sentence: the subject part and the predicate part. The subject part contains the simple subject and all of its modifiers. The predicate part contains the verb and all of its modifiers.

Example: Mary who is the girl who scored the winning goal in the high school finals became a star in college three years later.

"Mary who is the girl who scored the winning goal in the high school finals" is the subject part of the sentence. Mary is the simple subject.

"became a star three years later in college" is the predicate part of the sentence. Became is the verb of the sentence.

The subject part is what the sentence is about, and the predicate part makes a statement about the subject part.

I hope this helps!!
