Do you recall the Marijuana plants in the garden of Eden? I didnt think so...and if you think we should eat every plant that exist in the world today how about a hemlock brownie?...a little Hemlock and your going to be dead or in the hospital. the verse you speak of was in Genisis at the start of creation when Adam and Eve were In Eden and were told the could eat of any tree in the garden except the tree in the midst of the garden....they were kicked out of Eden...and all plants are not healthy here.

Too bad most of the people who responded didn't bother to read your actual question. Their response about hemlock is the same point you were attempting to make.
In response to what you're question actually asked, some people use the bible and other religious texts to make what they already believe in seem to be the only answer. They did the same thing with slavery and racism. Other people believe what these people say, because they see them as authority figures.
It is a very complicated issue, and there is no way I am going to be able to say the reason people do this in a small answer. But at least I actually answered your question.

God cannot be seen by the human eye. Yet His eternal power and divine character are known and clearly seen by the things He has made. The fact that God cannot be seen does not mean He cannot be known. But, if you were to look at the order of things as being held constant by the creator, who created all things, you can begin to see the God, who was and is powerful enough to create such a beautiful place even though He cannot be seen directly. Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval. By faith you understand that the world with every beautiful creation was prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible...!

If ya wanna smoke pot, I really have no problem with it. I think, controversially, that it should be legal for people to have a pot plant at home. I don't smoke it, but I don't see the merit of preventing people so inclined from doing so. Reason? If you make it illegal for the person to 'grow their own', you effectively create a market for the drug cartels, people that want something they can't have, and are willing to pay money to get it, regardless of the law. If you're in your house, higher than jesus on stilts, I could care less. If you drive, or show up to work stoned, though, that should be between you and the cops, and your boss. I say that prohibition pretty much failed in the 20's, and I don't think it'll work today, to the contrary it's seen HUGE amounts of money go to mexico and other places as a result.
I don't smoke it, don't want to be around it, but I think making it legal for a person to have their own plant for personal use is 'harm reduction', as it pulls the plug on the drug runners, who most likely will have been found to have been behind a lot of the anti-drug lobbying, as they know that supply and demand dictate market prices. They know people in america want to get high, americans I think know that it's largely futile trying to 'nanny' people at every turn, that eventually they will find the means to their ends if only to scoff at your attempts to the contrary, so to
nullify the appeal of selling illegal drugs, specifically pot, in america, they should legalize it. I think that in the interest of public safety, that drug use should still be taken into account, a DUI of any kind, be it alcohol or anything else, should result in a 10k fine first offense, along with vehicle confiscation. I don't think being 'high' in and of itself should be a crime, any more than being drunk is in and of itself a crime. However, being under the influence does NOT, in my view, remove your accountability for your actions, so 'location, location, location'. Do it at home, or don't do it at all, but let's de-criminalize all this stuff and put the mexican drug-runners and others OUT of business and off our street corners. Drug addiction's a medical problem, should be treated as such, the border's an enforcement problem, should be treated as such. Mexico should stand up and help, recognize the harm they're helping to cause in america, intentionally or otherwise, and build their own fence across from ours. If the border's maintained in a sense of mutual partnership, it could be a race to see who makes it from the gulf of mexico to the pacific FIRST. I'm sure there's elements from america that the mexicans don't want in their country either, this'd be a great opportunity for them to have their own territorial boundary, too.

Hemlock is a plant, so is poison ivy. If you want to justify your pot smoking, that's not a good way to do it.
