The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - called "Mormons" because we believe in The Book of Mormon. We believe in God the Eternal Father, His Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. We believe that God loves us as much today as he did during biblical times, so he gives us continuous revelation through a living prophet today - just as in ancient times. We believe that through Christ's Atonement we can be saved & live with Him in the kingdom of God. The Book of Mormon is a book of scripture similar to the Bible. It does not replace the Bible but is an additional witness that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. It was written by the inhabitants of ancient America about the same time as the Bible was written in Jerusalem. It contains God's teachings to them including Jesus Christ's personal visit to them after his death & resurection. The church's headquarters is in Salt Lake City, Utah. It actually started in New York. In 1820 Joseph Smith, founder & prophet had a vision & saw God the Father & His Son Jesus Christ. Eventually, he recieved the Priesthood Authority of God from Peter, James & John - 3 of Christ's origional Apostles, & restored the Church of Jesus Christ to the earth. (The Authority had been lost from the earth after the death of Christ's Apostles.) He also had visitations from an angel who told him about an ancient record on gold plates. He was able to translate this record by the power of God. It is called The Book of Mormon. Because of severe persecution, the church moved to Ohio, then Misouri, & finally Illinois. There, Joseph Smith, was killed, along with his brother Hyram. Many other Mormons were killed or driven out. In 1847 they fled to Utah for religious freedom. From there, through missionary work, the church has grown world wide. There are currently over 12,500,000 members throughout the world.

Mormans are mainly in the west mainly due to persicution. Originally John Smith was in Ohio, but many of the people that were there were killed namley the men. So they looked to Utah as an area where no one would really bother them. At that time Utah was pretty remote. They were looking to expand, and many of their men members were killed in Utah so they allowed the practice of polygamy (having more than one wife).
Mormans believe that Jesus Christ was ressurected and cruised around North America. John Smith translated the book of Morman from God himself. That should get you started.

Mormons are mainly found everywhere but their population is high in the west because when the Church was founded the religious community at the time drove them out of their home back east. We believe that there are prophets of God living today giving us God's word just as in the Bible there were prophets. We also believe that if we learn and are true to our faith and to God's will we will be able to become like God's ourselves. We believe that the Book of Mormon is scripture just like the Bible and they go togther to be the complete words of God from the past eras. Obviously some people don't know what they are talking about, we DO believe in Jesus and his saving Grace. Otherwise why would we be called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints?

They're out west b/c that's where they found refuge from the mobs & other "Christian" chruches of their day when their church was first restored (not started, but restored). We are not prodostant, b/c they did not protest or break away from the Church of England or the Catholic church. The real name of the church in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints-- how can this not be a Christian church -- even the church bears the name of Christ. Our beliefs are in corrospondance w/ the doctrine Christ taught and w/ the Church He set up, when He lived on the earth, some 2006 years age. In general, it is a very family -oriented church which encourages self-reliance, & prepairdness .Grace is our only hope of salvation...after we do all we can do. (Jms 2:17. kjv)

They believe in their guy Joseph Smith. He is the reason for the cult. They don't believe Jesus has the power to save through grace.
