why is it that in chat room or instant messenger etc....you only ever chat to the opposite sex........when asking or being asked asl the conversatoin does nt go any futher than that if you turn out to be the same sex....and we are only on there chatting......???it amuses me.......i have a hi5 site that contains men only i look like a ****......but you feel like you cant add females.....why?.......ps anyone who want to join my hi5 to even up the number feel free!.....lol

Chat itself isn't restricted. You can chat with whomever you want.
Reading some of the other answers I didn't realize that some women stopped chatting when they realized the other chatter is a woman. I thought only guys did that.
From the heterosexual guys' point of view, there are many times when guy-to-guy chatting reveals homophobia, and so they tend to keep those chats short.
By the way, what is "homophobia" when it's women who are afraid of women?

I know exactly what you mean. Surely "chat" is just that. I find the whole asl question quite off putting. If you're not intending to meet, then location shouldnt be an issue. If you want a friendly that chat, then either sex should be ok shouldnt it? Age can be an issue as I wouldnt have a lot to say to a 15 year old - and vice versa. Anyway, I'm female and friendly - so feel free to chat!!!

I know exactly what you mean!! If you try to talk to a woman in chat then most of the time the other woman can be decidely frosty....they act like you must be a lesbian or sth if you want to talkk to a woman. It amuses me too. What's hi5? Am I being dim?

You can chat with any body.No harm.If you want some sexual touch have chat with opposite sex.In chat room what you must know is that your action decides the reaction.Be cautious from your side which will avoid unpleasant situation.

I think it should be ok to chat with either sex. But I agree it usually is one sided. I like to chat to all kinds of different people.

Yeah, it sucks, but it's because of the cruddy little lifeless one's that have little better to do than act childish and profane that make the rest of us look suspect.

i've never had this problem -- i chat with lots of people, both men and women and have about = numbers of both on my friends list.
