In general badminton is easier because the cock, or birdie can float over the net, and gives the player a longer reaction time.

Yet, the court is smaller, and so when the birdie is moving fast, it moves very fast. Tere is also a lot more running in tennis than in badminton.

People get the wrong impression that badminton is easier than tennis simply because they are beginners. At the low level, it is true. At any higher level, badminton becomes vastly harder. Lets look at some facts from a Wimbledon final and a badminton world championships final, alright?

Time of ball in play
Tennis: 18 minutes
Badminton: 37 minutes

Number of shots
Tennis: 1004
Badminton: 1972

Distance traveled
Tennis: 2 miles
Badminton: 4 miles

The badminton player will do more arm swings than a MLB pitcher.

Record ball speed
Tennis 263 km/h
Badminton 332 km/h

You have to jump in badminton (constantly). Tennis, not so much.
The ball is allowed to bounce in tennis. Badminton, no.

The actual length of the matches
Tennis: 198 min
Badminton: 76 min

When paired with the time that the ball is actually in play (18 min and 37 min), tennis players are only running around less than 10% of the time, and badminton players are running AND jumping 50% of the time.
Badminton players need to run TWICE the distance tennis players run in HALF the time. Don t say badminton is a wimpy sport just because you guys play it wimpily. It is a very intense sport at intermediate and high levels.

Yes ! Badminton is harder than tennis. I play both and I'm an advance player and all of my friends also says that badminton is a lot harder than tennis physically so it means you need more muscular legs ( because badminton players always need to jump a lot and in tennis you almost never need to jump, so you can think is jumping+running 30 min is easier than running 30 minutes? ) but if you play tennis than you need more muscular arms because the raquet is heavier. And don't forget that badminton is the fastest raquet sport in the world ( search for it and you won't believe that a guy smashes a bird with the speed of 493 km/h which is a lot much faster than a tennis) so you have a lot and a lot more time to react in tennis.

Jeffrey is actually wrong. Badminton is the more difficult sport to play. The only reason you will hear "Tennis is more difficult than badminton" is because of the beginner level. In the newbie and beginner levels, Tennis is more difficult because of the requirements in the stroke. Tennis uses a much heavier racket, and therefore it is more difficult to land a decent shot than it is to land a decent shot in badminton. In the more advanced levels to professional levels, you will see Tennis players hit the net much more often than you will see a badminton player hit the net. Tennis also does not require the agility or stamina as does badminton. Yes, I said stamina. You DO run MORE in BADMINTON than tennis. Regardless of more distance, let's say in tennis and badminton you run the same distance I don't care if you are superman, no one should say running a mile in separated sprints is easier than jogging a mile. And if others still disagree badminton is more difficult than tennis, take it from this ESPN article.

I think tennis is a lot harder than badminton. In tennis you have a lot more court to cover and you have to be able to hit the ball harder.

I think there is more to know about tennis. The seams on the ball allow for various shots that allow it to drop, curve, backspin, etc. If you watch top-level badminton players, that shuttlecock zips back and forth, but I can't imagine spin shots given that the shuttlecock is uniform.

Well, it really depends. People say badminton is easy because your just hitting a birdie. Think about it. Do you think its hard? Just because your hitting a birdie with skinny rackets really doesn't mean that its easy since you just have to hit that tiny birdie. You can't judge sports by its apperence. It's hard for some since they can't hit the birdie with their wrist without using their arm and are either still learning how to play the game and are unexpereinced. For some people, its easy because they played it before, are very or have expereince/d, and they practice, and that also goes for tennis. Badminton can be as hard and as intense as tennis and it requires the same stamina and engergy to move around the court and hit the ball/birdie back. So it can be hard and easy at the same time for many of us and it depends if you think its hard or not. Play both and compare and contrast if badminton is harder or easier than tennis.

P.S(And I'm sorry if its going to be a long answer/paragraph, but as a badminton player, I feel ashamed how some people think and wrote that badminton is easy.) As a badminton player myself, I think its hard and easy. For it being hard, I had played very good players at my school and have to move around a lot since they make you move around with the birdie instead of hitting back to you at the very same spots. So don't think its easy just hitting the birdie back and forth in one spot. It's not. As for the birdie slowing down, yes its easy to react to it and to hit it back. But that can be a easy and hard part to do deal with. If you hit the birdie back only half way, then that give your oppponent the advantage of going for the kill or birdie so that s/he could score. Unless you are able to hit it where he's not prepared or forced to move so that you can get ready to recieve the birdie, its easy, If not, then its not going to be easy for you to play this game. And hitting the birdie back isn't easy. It can move fast and slow and if you can't react to it fast enough or you can't hit it back up in time, then its going to be hard. And although there are different shots in tennis than badminton, the shots for badminton can be different on how fast they more, and what direction they go through. And try playing badminton for your first time. It would be already hard since you can't hit the birdie with the use of your arm. You have to use your wrist, which can be hard for people to get used to in the beginning. Overall(again), badminton can be hard or easy than/as tennis. It depends on your presepective and if you played the sport before. All sports can be hard or easy for people. It just depends if you think its hard or not.(sorry if it was too long. couldn't help it)

No way! Tennis is waayy more harder then badminton. Ishould know. i've been playing tennis since i was 4yrs.old. With badminton you just really stay in one spot and wait for the birdy to come to you. I'm not just saying this cause i love tennis, honestly it's not harder. now since you heard my answer what do you think about it?

i think badminton is easier cause the birdie sort of glides and gives u a little more time to get to it. I love badminton, and have never played tennis, but badminton seems like it would be a little less intense than tennis and maybe more fun.
