I have worked for several insurance companies - Mission, Kindler and Laucci (Los Angeles) and a couple others. I began as a receptionist (with a degree), and worked my way up into the systems department documenting and writing technical manuals. You need to be knowledgeable about computers. While each company has their own programs, you should be able to move around without being fearful. Everything is done by computers/online. You should have a good rapport with people. You will have to talk with customers and they may or may not be the happiest campers. You have to be firm, but understanding. You may have to work the the police departments, and other agencies with regards to claims, so you should definitely know how to communicate with people., have a good command of the language. Depending on where you live, if you speak Spanish, you have more than a good foot in the door. Being able to complete and close files is a great asset. I learned in the past that a lof of examiners have so many cases they don't complete files and close. Your ability to be on time and get your work done in a timely manner is greatly important. Stay close to your supervisor and listen for constructive criticism. It's a fun job, especially if you like people. Even though I teach - much of what I learned in the insurance business is helpful to me today. Good luck - oh - and dress nicely. People always think it's ok to "dress casual', but I'm old school. Dress nicely. Good impressions last.

I'm working at an Insurance Company Right now. N it is BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is nothing but Policies, and more Policies and more paper work. You might need to start off first as an office assistant, before you actually get into the dirty work with the Clients. Get familiar with it first....or else they won't hire you for that position. Good Luck anyway.

yes i worked for Golden Rule insurance. when i interviewed i had to take a typing test to test my wpm, they worked on quotas, and they were very professional. dress very professionally. have educated questions to ask them, insurance is very thorough business and they dont have room for error because an error could cost them time and money. its also not a fair business you are going to hear and see things happen that dont seem fair, but since its not you paying out those med bills dont question it!
