Run Lola Run [Lola rennt] is a great alternative. It is German, has a short length, consists of a female lead, doesn't follow a traditional storytelling structure, and is low on subtitles.
It was even spoofed on The Simpsons (if that scores a bonus point).
It's all about a woman who is trying to save her boyfriend's life but she only has 20 minutes to do so. There aren't cell phones or vehicles available to use - so she has to RUN.
The music's pretty good and every time I watch it there a little bit of a rush. This is a good start to help get you into foreign film...you can get your feet wet but not feel as if it's something so esoteric it will bore you. It's not too long, paced rather well, and should be a creative alternative from something typical of Hollywood.
Hope you enjoy it! :)

Here's one: Amelie. It's a French film and shows an exaggerated Paris (like the one in Madeline) but it has a very good plot. It's about a girl (Audrey Tatou) who has grown up almost an orphan and has sort of this quirky weirdness to her and she has all these cute adventures like skipping stones in the river and guessing how many people are having an orgasm right this second (Fifteen!)
Malena is an Italian coming-of-age film about ayoung boy who saves a woman named Malena (Monica Bellucci) from the village's suspicions of her committing adultery on her husband.
Y Tu Mama Tambien is a film in Mexico about three teenagers who discover "things" on a road trip. It's a bit risque but it's very fun. It was directed by Alfonso Curaon who also directed the third Harry Potter installment.
These are just some foreign films you might be interested in especially at this time when you are making a transition. Enjoy!

I thought by Hollywood Movie you meant movies about Hollywood. My favorite is A Star is Born with James Mason and Judy Garland. You really get the idea of what Hollywood is like. Great, great movie.

I am from Pakistan ,There is a Movie Jinnah which you could watch (If you are interested in history).
Chinese Movies are very nice too , you can get them in subtitles or dubbed .
Other than that , from Asian movies i would definitely recommend Indian movies of Sahrukh khan , Preity Zinta , etc .Indian movies are worth watching , not every movie ,but of the main legendary actors .
You will find the difference , of emotions feel , everything , Its a complete 3 hours entertainment .

This is a film based on a Korean urban legend
A Tale of 2 Sisters.
It is an edgy thriller, a little scary at times, but VERY GOOD!
