Ground-breaker work by an American writer working in Paris, France. The book is a soft-core one by modern standards, but by the middle of the last century it was repellent to the Establishment. Banned for that reason. Read it thinking about the time Miller wrote it and find how straight forward it is!

I was disappointed in it. I can't believe it was ever banned. Not as racey as one might imagine and I'm not a big fan of its navel gazing modernist style.
