As far as I know, they are. I did it with my daughter. Sure, some people may comment as society has come to a point where many people view breasts as purely sex objects and, therefore, breastfeeding as some kind of obscene act. To me, there is nothing more obscene than watching a baby being fed something synthetic out of a bottle, which is so bad for the baby that it always vomits afterwards. Equally offensive is the sight of a woman breastfeeding her baby in cold, foul smelling public toilets, rather than risk offending by feeding publicly in the warm somewhere.

Of course they should. It is the most natural thing to do in the world. We should be encouraging more women to breast feed, but when there has been so much hype as to where they can & can't feed, it's putting people off.
From that point of view, the answer is yes, for sure BUT,
how is a woman meant to feel comfortable feeding her baby when there as some pervs out there who will want to watch?
People who complain that women breast feed in public are probably the same people who complain if the baby is crying non-stop because the mother feels she can't feeed publicly.
What's the alternative? Breast feeding next to someone changing their kids nappy!!!
Would you eat your meal in the toilets? No, then why should a baby!!
You've started me off on a rant now!!!

I do agree that women should be able to breast feed in public. I do believe they should be respectful to passersby. Some women have no shame and don't care who sees, that is all good and well at their home, but in public not everyone is comfortable with that. As long as there is respect on both sides I don't see a problem. That is just my opinion on this subject. I am a mother that has breast feed in public. And I was discreet and respectful to the community and there was no real problem. Hope this helped. Blessings.

I think that you should be. When your pregnant you are almost brainwashed that breast is best and most of us mothers do try, and do well. But the minute you try and find a place outside to feed your child it can be almost impossible. So for quickness and convience i used to express milk into a regular bottle an give her that when we were out shopping. It is still frown upon in public because it causes embarrassment to others.

Yes they should. I personally do it, but I do try to do it subtly and keep covered up with a light blanket, or wear a nursing shirt so it isn't as obvious. If I am at a mall I often try to find a dressing room to use, but if there isn't one around, then I still feed my baby no matter how many people are around. Starbucks has been a good place for me. They usually have comfortable seats and I can usually turn away from most of the other people.

Just imagine how different the answers would have been if you'd asked, "Is it ok to go topless on the beach?" It seems that exposing breasts for their natural purpose is frowned upon. It's a sign of our times. In my opinion, I'd rather see a hundred women breastfeeding in public than one more Page Three Stunner.

I agree 100%. I breast fed in public and the way I look at it is, if it offends you.. don't look! I never whipped my breasts out.. I was discrete about it. And for those of you who suggest to go in to a nasty, smelly public toilet.. then how about this.. you take your kids in there to eat lunch.. and if and when you do... then.. I will feed my child there.. til then.. keep your nose on your face and don't worry about what other people are doing at the shops! Oh.. and to the woman who said not to do it in front of everyone.. well.. if you come to visit my house.. I am not going to leave one room because you get offended. Its my house.. you pay my rent and bills then you can have your say.. til then.. get over your insecurity.. its bothersome that there are people out there that hear the word breastfeed and they get up in arms.. breasts out in the open.. ohhh noooo.. get over it!

I agree. I have breast fed both of my kids and am planning on doing it again. I have always b/f in public, just wit some modesty. Where I live a woman can not be penalized for bearing her breast in public if she is breastfeeding. I think that its great. Mothers should not be ashamed of breastfeeding, its natural. Besides that is the reason God gave us Breasts. Sorry guys they werent originally for you.

Yes. Breastfeeding really doesn't expose the breast if the mother has on a nursing bra so no one should be offended, even though anyone being offended by a baby getting nourishment is an idiot anyway! Breasts were sexualized by men and the media. They are mammary glands that produce milk for babies! Who cares if you see a little nipple? Get over it!
