Also depend on your body type. Remember that with the FLHR (and any of the FLH line) you sit ON them. Whereas with the FLST you sit IN them. Not a major difference. Will depend on the kind of riding you're wanting to do. Also keep in mind when you're looking that if you want to do any/many changes, the EPA regualtions affect the '06 and on bikes. So if you're wanting to customize it any, you might want to consider '05 or older.......

I prefer the Road King. The road King has the same basic styling as the Softail so it looks cool. The King also has a rubber mounted engine so it doesnt vibrate nearly as much. And on those Long rides...that is definately a plus. Additionally, it is the chameleon of the Harley line. You can strip it down to make it look like a Softail...or you can dress it up and make it into a Electraglide if you want.

Depends what you're looking for. Speed, endurance,Theres nothing like a Heritage Softail—classic styling combined with a simple look and feel. clean lines and a streamline design define a Softail, the perfect example of “less means more.” Road King on the other hand Bigger bike more for running the roads (traveling) Hope this helps

Both have advantages and disadvantages. The roadking is the touring machine and set up for comfort. Its a little heavier and has a smoother ride. The engine is rubber mounted to absorb the vibrations better. Its a nice looking bike. The softail on the otherhand, is lower to the ground, (watch those turns). It has a solid mounted engine, but the newer models have counter balancers inside the engine to make it run smoother. The ride is rougher, and they are not as comfortable on trips as the king. They are better for the vertically challenged rider (midgets, dwarves, elfs, knomes, and other short persons).
I would buy the road king because I am tall, and the King is more practical. It is a bagger and falls into the category of "geezer glide", but they are popular sleds. I ride an old FXR cop bike. I prefer it because its sportier, lighter, quicker, and handles better.
So i guess it depends on your riding style. You looking for a bar hopper, or will you be putting serious miles on it?

I've ridden the road king and the soft tail. I'd have to say the road king is the most comfortable Harley. If I had the $$ I would get the road king myself. The soft tail seemed a bit cramped and unsteady at slow speeds. But still a nice bike. Anyway, Go with the road king. You'll love it.

The Softail is a beautiful machine, but the RK has been the best seller, for a while. Decide what kind of riding you want to do. Get the right tool for the job.

Depending on if you are distance riding or bar hopping. The road king will be more comfortable to ride distance than the soft tail especially if you have a back seat rider. Also you'll have more storage if you get hard bags for the Road King. Personally I like the Road King. I think they both have rubber mounted motors.
