Pretty? Since when are models pretty? Clothes designers are all gay, they want the models to look like men. Most of them do. Yech!! Models are gross. Tall is good though, most of them are tall for women.

My statement isn't about models faces, but the fact that the majority of them have no hips, bum or breasts. All prerequisites for being a woman in my mind.

If you're talking runway modelling, most likely yes to be tall and extremely skinny. Pretty is subjective and can be produced with makeup -- but cheekbones are required.

If you want to model for like the Sears catalog, you don't need to be either tall or pretty.

Or, you could be lucky enough to be at the vanguard of a new beauty look. Think of Twiggy in the late 60's. She was 5'6", very flat-chested and not particularly pretty. Yet overnight it seems she became the icon of a new type of look.

Not necessarily. Pretty is relative and many models do not fit the conventional mode of pretty by society's standards. Many avante garde designers look for more distorted features instead of the pretty barbie doll types.

As for height, if you plan to pursue runway modeling, then yes, being tall is definitely a primary criteria. But regular print and trade publications are more flexible.

Good luck. The only advice to give you is to be confident, be dedicated, don't give up, and grow a thick skin.

I am 5"2 and 112 Ibs and I would love to be a model. I think we should start our own modeling for petites. We have to wear clothes too. As for being pretty, there are different types of pretty. As long as you don't have massively crooked teeth or a HUGE nose I think that anyone could model, height shouldn't matter an neither should weight. Proporation is the key!

You are gorgeous!!!! The only thing that I could think that could be a problem is that you look pretty average. You don't have a very exotic look, and I'm not completely sure if you could sell a product. Another slight problem is that your photos really don't stand out to me. They don't look like something a model would take. They are very pretty, but they necessarily don't show any "true" gift. Nothing really stands out to me. When taking a photo you have to try different looks and poses. I DEFINITELY think you have a lot of potential. My suggestions would be to start watching "America's Next Top Model" and take notes. Also, start looking at pictures of runway models and stuff. If you imitate the big, famous, runway models you could really stand out to agencies. Now I'm not tellin' you to drop a bunch of weight or anything like that, because you have the perfect body for what you're aiming for. Please take some of my creative criticism as lessons. If you need any help or anything just contact me. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

No...you can be a hand model like george was on Seindfeld or a foot model.....if you're going for anything else though then yes, tall and pretty would be the way to go.

Yes, you have to be over 5 foot six, technically (but the only famous 5 foot 6 model is Kate Moss) but most are nearer six foot. You don't need to be pretty so much as striking, for catwalk. Pretty is for catalogues.

Unless you want to be a plus size model, you also need to be unhealthily thin, for eg a six six and six foot tall. Not good.

I'm not sure where this 'huge demand' for short models is - I think someone may be pulling your leg. Although, there are (maybe not here in the UK but in the US) petite catalogues etc that would need short models.

Sadly it is true that those who promote models expect them to be extreamly pretty, if not beautiful and tall as well. They are also expected to be anorexic. I once watched a fashion show and I was appolled to see how skinny these poor women were. They were so skinny their skin actually hung on their bones, and when they walked their flesh area sagged around the bones and jiggled which caused a sight I hope never to see agian. I will not watch those shows ever agian.

I also heard models who spoke up about the expectatons the people who hire them have on weight. They were already very slim, very skinny actually, but they were told they needed to lose another ten pounds in order to get the job. I was just sickened by this. The women who were speaking said that in order to keep getting work, they have to starve themselves in order to reach weights which are unhealthy in the extreame. One young woman was five feet nine inches and only weighed one hundred and fifteen pounds, yet she was instructed to lose another five pounds! A normal healthy weight for a woman her size is one hundred and fifty pounds! She was just skin and bones. It was so sad. I did not understand why these women would want to put their health at such risk. I understand they can make a lot of money modeling, but this is rediculous.

If you are serious about trying to become a model you also need great poise, confidence and streangth. They expect you to be well versed in public speach, if you expect to get very far that is. You need to be hairless too and know how to do your makeup and wardrobe without any help or assistance from a makeup artist. Those who are just starting out do not have makeup artists to assist them. You need to have a wardrobe which is rather expensive as they expect you to be as well dressed off the set as on the set. This is due to the fact you are representing the company's you have worked for even after the photo shoot is over. They do not want the public to see you looking less than the best dressed and madeup as possible after the shoot, or the public will not respond as well to the ads.

Modeling is hard and demanding work. It is not glamerous as it may seem to be. These women know they may never make the big times, and are constantly being rejected when they apply for a modeling gig. They may have a promoter, but usually not untill they have established themselves in one way or another.

It is difficult to break into modeling. The big companies go with the promoters models who have already established themselves in some way. Usually this is through connections. You need to establish a portfolio of work. That is photo shoots.

If you are serious I wish you much luck and success in this field. I would discourage my daughters from persueing this line of work. I would worry what it would do to their self esteem from the constant rejections, and then worry constantly about their health from being too skinny.

NO----when you are talking High Fashion and most Runway work---yes---But there are many other types of modeling---suffice to say here that there is not space or time to run details but with some investigation one can explore from these clues---Print modeling--Specialty modeling--Industrial modeling--Glamour modeling--and TV advertisements------In some of these types of modeling one can be "pretty" but not need the height---in some of these fields one does not even have to be "pretty"--look closely at the ads you see on TV---they consistently use people who are somewhat ordinary in their looks in order to 'relate' to the audience they are targeting--you should see some of the checks written to these folks--and someone is going to say they are not professional models ???---there are numerous people making fabulous money in the Plus Size markets---larger people doing adds for the countless companies in this field--most of these folks are not all that tall----so----there are far more areas to modeling than the TYRA BANKS thing----it just happens to be the most noticably visible and promoted area in modeling...........
