when i first moved in with my then girlfriend (now wife) we only had a single. now we have a queen. we've stayed at hotels with a king. we didn't like the king because there's too much space so we didn't cuddle up. queen's perfect because you are lying close together but no one is falling off

define the location that you wish to consider. Bed sizes vary by country.
If one considers the world, something closer to what Americans call a "full size or double bed" would most likely be most common.
In the US, it is likely the Queen size now, though a few decades ago, 70's and 80's it might well have been the king size, and before that the full size.

Probably queen, although I have slept with my husband on a king size water bed all of our marriage and I love it.

I have a queen size bed and it's perfect for both my boyfriend and I. But it depends how big the both of you are. My boyfriend is 6'3 and I'm 5'0

Queen, Gives plenty of wiggling room but not so big you cant still touch each other on your side of the bed. Unless you dislike your spouse in that case two twin beds........
