If you put some used cat litter around the base of the plants, it will deter the squirrels from digging there. They will smell the litter and think a cat is nearby waiting to pounce on them!

Chicken wire is good but if you have a large garden it is a bit impractical unless the problem is really big. Just put it on the top of the ground that you have planted and they will not want to dig. You may need a finer net wire but eventually they will get the idea. Also if you mix up a solution of cayenne, alcohol and water and spray the area with it, it should help to keep them from wanting to come in too.

As I mentioned to another person not too long ago, buy a bobble head owl statue, you can pick these up at a local hardware store or wal-mart, and mount it on a pole or in a tree near your garden. they will be gone.

you might try putting dried corn seeds and nuts a ways away from your garden and always make sure they have plenty, they are just hungry and looking for food!
