What I currently am involved in is giving blood as often as possible. Before, I volunteered for the "Big Brothers Program" I was a big brother to a little brother and it was great fun for both of us!
The problem is there is just not enough volunteers. A close friend of mine signed up to become a Big Sister for a girl, but there was a 7 year old boy that had been waiting over a year for a big brother and they asked her if she would consider him to be a Big Sister to.
So if you read this and have ever considered volunteering, please think about the Big Brother and Big Sister programs. It is a lot of fun, the children need you, and it is a very rewarding experience.
Why am I not doing it now? Because I decided to go back to school and work full time. When I am finished with school I will go back into the program. My little brother and his mom moved out of the area, so the timing was good for both of us.
--Reading some of the comments and responding to Bolan. How can you consider your employees as a charity? They give you their time and energy to make your business successful. If it were not for them, you would not be in business. It is like Wal-mart saying they help their employees, when the opposite is true. So wake up to reality.

I volunteered at this youth music hall for two years. I now don't volunteer regularly for anywhere, but I was homeless for 6 years, and now I always give money to bums, cuz I know that no one is going to give them a job until they at least get on medication and get a shower, and who's gonna let a bum take a shower at their house? not you. I sometimes let them spend the night, too, and no, I have never been robbed or attacked or put in any danger from doing this.

I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses. (There are now over 6.5 million of us, in over 98,200 congregations, worldwide.) Each of us enjoy helping serious-minded individuals find the Bible-based answers to their many-times-perplexing questions, using various Bible translations & often comparing them. Several of the questions we're often asked -- along with their basic, Scriptural answers -- are found at:

We work to support ourselves. We do not 'pass a plate' for contributions, nor ask for monetary pledges from anyone. I was once one of those looking for answers, and found my life so enriched that I wanted to help others the same way I'd been helped.
