the reason why pennies are given on halloween ( esp by little old italian ladies) is to pay the ferrymanCharon so that you may cross the river Styx to the land of the dead...it is a token given in memoriam for lost loved ones, the same reason pennies were placed on the eyes of the dead... Halloween is a feast of the dead, to honor & remember them. not a gluttonous candy hording celebration...get over your greediness & take what you get...beggers cant be choosers!

The worst thing that happened at Halloween was when they started using it as a time for fundraising for Unicef. It created a lot of bullying and abuse by older kids and it is not the purpose of a fun night of candy and dressing up.

LOL!! Pennies in foil is bad. I got pudding once. Got home & it was spoiled. One year, my son & niece got 5 peanuts still in the shells. That was weird! One neighbor gave us travel toothbrushes & toothpaste when I was growing up.

Actually I can't say the worst thing that I have given, but the worst thing that the kids got was.... a toothbrush.

I went to the door like any other kid to get candy...and I got plenty of candy.
As I was leaving the house I realized that the pumpkin head scare crow that was sitting on the porch was an actual person, and the person in it ripped my costume to shreds...LOL

I once received an apple that had a razor blade in the center of it, and thanks to my mom's concerns, she sliced it up prior to me biting into it, thus she found the razor blade and notified the local police. I wouldn't call that a trick or a treat:(
