People who dip are 50 times more likely to develop cancers of the cheek, gums, and lining of the lips than those who don't use tobacco. The five year survival rate for these cancers is only about 50 percent. It may not be as deadly as lung cancer, but it can be just as life-altering and disfiguring. Early detection of these cancers is very important to increase the chances of survival. If you notice any red or white spots in the area where you pocket the dip, you need to have it checked out. The link below lists other signs of oral cancer. 28 cancer causing agents have been identified in smokeless tobacco. Listen to the facts and quit using tobacco.

No...you just get a different type of cancer. Mouth, throat and stomach instead of lung cancer...plus you get to walk around looking like an idiot with a pouchie lip, like some one socked you in the mouth...spitting and drooling "juice" everywhere....sick

Hugest Turn OFF ever! Non smokers best, but I'll take a smoker over a dipper anyday!

If you are will to switch from smoking to dipping, why not just switch from smoking to nicotine gum, or lozenge. At least that is closer to quitting and you get the same satisfaction in the meantime with out all the gross spitting.

Dipping doesn't harm your lungs, but will give you mouth cancer after probably 30-40 years of dipping. But by then they might have a cure... thats optomistic

Dipping can lead to mouth and throat cancers, not nearly as fatal as lung cancer, but still bad, fewer lung infections, so all in all, it's not as bad for you. Everyone else will say it's just as bad, ignore them. No one ever got emphysema or bronchitis from dipping.

It has the same repercussions as smoking. You simply get cancer in a different area of your body. The amounts of nicotine are relatively the same. I saw an individual once that was missing his entire lower jaw. It looked like he had no chin. It was very unappealing. Not that I am one to talk, as I am a smoker.

Have you ever seen a pic of a person with his face half-eaten away from cancer, because he thought dipping was healthier than smoking?

Only if you don't want your teeth or gums.

Nicotine (found in all tobaccos) affects asthma by raising heart rate, constricting blood vessels, and irritating most of the cells in your body. It's just best to quit altogether.
