Now seeing that this was over a guy, you should definitely stop hanging out with this person, who is obviously a jealous rat.. You should play nice with your mom and promise not to lie again, etc. etc. etc. that works 90% percent of the time with mine (but you have to remain loyal to your promise for a while). If you can't avoid getting punished, suggesting punishments is what i usually do. Remember, try to sound very sensible and pained. Chores r usually a good option because that means less work for your mom too. Go with the first punishment that doesn't sound to durastic, but remember, argueing will just get you a worse punishment.

Seriously:

It was probably in your best interest. True friends do the right thing, even when it hurts.

Integrity is a great quality of a friend!

PS - Why would you lie to your own mother? Don't you have any respect for your parents? At least you did the right thing by being honest later.

Honesty is the best policy!

Listen the same thing happened to me growing up, I would get into a fight with my mother, vent to who was supposedly my best friend and she would then go and tell my mom every thing I just said, unfortunately my brother started seeing the beatch. None the less ten years later after trying to have both of them in my life, my mother recently dis owned me. I'm not saying that your mom would dis own you but I think you should cut your losses with your friend. Could you ever confide in her? I think she is trying to ruin you and your mom's relationship.. Hope this helps

That depends. Is the lie something that your mother needs to know in order to protect you? Your friend may have been looking out for you. My daughter's friend was lying about suicide attempts... of course we told her mother. Always be straight with your mom. no one in the world will ever care about you as much as your mom.

Yes you should still be her friend but you should always go up to your mom and tell the truth about what you did.

She doesn't seem like much of a friend to me. The only thing that I would forgive is if she told my mom something that could potentially be harmful to me and that she was worried about me. Other than that it isnt acceptable.

She busted you out. Did she do it on purpose or did it just slip out? I would still be her friend, but I would be careful what I said and did around her.
