usually, when you start getting hair, it won't be long until you start menstruating. My daughter has gotten pubic hair and is starting to get armpit hair, but hasn't started yet, either. The doctor is unconcerned and said it will most likely happen in the next year. Two years is not that outlandish, but longer than that and I would wonder. It's not unusual for girls to be 15-16 before they start. A good rule of thumb is to ask your parents when the women in their family started. My daughters have been starting on an average between their dad's family and mine. The next time you go to the doctor, ask him or her, or their nurse, about any concerns you have and don't be embarassed... they hear these things all the time and what you're asking is valid and common. I started mine before I was 11, but that is very rare. Most girls are your age or a little older, from my experience. My mother, for example, was almost 16. One of my daughters is almost 14 and has had hers for nearly a year, while one is 15 and still hasn't. And as I said, my youngest will in the next couple of years, should everything continue to go right.

I know several people that did not start their cycle until they were fourteen and some as late as fifteen. Don't rush. It's coming. It comes with varied levels of cramps. SOme have really bad cramps and others very mild. THe only common factor that I have noticed in my observations was that children who eat a lot of fast foods, greasy foods, and other junk food apart comparatively to those having a diet full of vegetables, grains, and plenty of water daily along with regular exercising, the junk food people cramp bad. The healthy diet people who drink plenty of water, had less complications. It is time that you start having a regular doctor visits and talk to them about these issues. And regardless of who tells you, birth control and contraceptives at your age is statistically proven to be harmful to you. Oh, and I'm a male, so I've not started my period, just my question marks. (smile)

usually pubic and armpit is first. periods can come between the ages of 8-16. but once i knew this girl who started when she was 27! she was way too skinny! periods can be delayed if you are VERY active.

I started at 13. Your mentrual sycle is in step with your mother's. Whatever age she started hers will be close to the age you start yours. About the body hair, it always comes before you period does. It's nature's way of saying, "hey, you're growing up..get ready for some major changes." You'll start soon, and when you do....you WILL know! Trust me. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at Rach23_pa@yahoo.com. Much love!!

I started in 6th grade. My niece started in 3rd. My niece is very big for her age. She also has extremely bad acne and has for 2 years now. It is different for everyone. My daughter has not started yet and she will go into 5th grade. About 1/2 of her friends have and 1/2 have not.

I was 12 but I know girls who did not start until they were 14-15 years old. I was kind of young compared to friends. Don't worry - it'll get here soon enough...

Yes, you are perfectly normal. Everyone goes through puberty at different ages. I started mine when I was 11. My daughter was 14 when she started.

Its normal, its ok. I'd say if it doesn't come by the time your 17 or 18 you need to see a doctor. I know of people who havn't gotten them until they turned 16.
