What is the major difference b/w coilovers and springs?

Coil overs can be an accessory to a shock absorber. Struts are simply larger coil overs with big shocks inside and are a single unit. Springs are made to be a separate component from the shocks. Springs can come in many forms including coil, leaf, and torsion bars.
