like a graze or scratch, over a part of your body for example the guy who slide tackles another on astroturf pitch gets nasty burns or abrasions on his knees and thighs

A skinned knee is an abrasion. A scrape where top layer of skin is rubbed off. Painful but not serious unless an infection sets in.

Simple; rug burn. that's an abrasion. scratched skin..
