Not particularly .. there are many stories of people who shut themselves away to find their "inner self". Monks and hermits have done this forever. However, knowing yourself is one thing but discovering how one fits into society and what ones true place is in the universe requires deep contact with others.

Well that is a very unique question dogcomp. I think we need to understand others, their personalities, thoughts, beliefs, hopes and dreams, before we can really understand ourselves, so if you'd like, we could hold hands and kiss.

I most certainly think so. We gain our sense of self from being around others, therefore it is only natural that we discover things about ourselves through our interactions with the people around us. Our responses, questions, behavior, etc makes us who we are and can only be seen through human interaction.
