I assumer you mean the Gangster Disciples. Contrary to what someone else said, the Gangster Disciples are NOT just a black gang in prison, but are active on city streets in several parts of the country. They were started in Chicago by a guy named "King" Larry Hoover (I believe) in the 60s-70s. The go by the street nickname the "GDs" and use a Jewish-type star as their symbol. They are a violent but somewhat sophisticated street gang that use a mafia type organization structure with "foot soldiers", "generals", etc. They are into drug sale, prostitution, burglary, etc. Hoover is still in prison I believe and is turned down for parole every time he comes up. He claims that if he is released from prison he can control the gangs and stop all the violence. Ha.

The Gangster Disciples are members of a black gang in prisons all over America. Their white counterpart is the Aryan Nations. As a former prison inmate, I consider both groups to be pathetic losers and probably gay, also. I currently live in the inner city, and I see a lot of phony "gangstas" who falsely claim to be GD's or Crips or Bloods. And phony gang graffiti is everywhere. But I'd bet that 90% of the real gang members are in prison now or they are dead.

gangster disciples; is the name of an american street gang in various parts of the country. it is comprised mostly of black members and began in chicago in the mid 60's. there are two dominant factions now identified as the gangster disciples and the black gangster disciples.
like organized crime of any type, there are offshoot groups in other cities. drugs, prostitution, money laundering and all the usual crimes, listed under the rico act, is what they are about. if you want to know more about street gangs in america, do a web search. you can then find out about the african, asian, latin and white street gangs too.
