About 6 months ago i noticed i was getting toe nail fungus, so i started using a topical liquid for it that you can get over the counter, well it hasn't really been working too well, and I heard that tea tree oil works for that sort of thing. So is it ok to switch right away to the tea tree oil? Or will It not work right? Because I know that if you take medication orally, you should wait like 24hrs. before using another kind. What do you think? Can you please help? Thank You.

Nail fungus is hard to get rid of. I'd stick with the topical medication that you have been using and talk to a doctor about taking an oral med to help the situation.

Good luck.

I can't think of any reason you couldn't just switch over immediately.

The thing with tea tree is that it has to be used for at least a couple of months before you'll notice any change and you'll have to be diligent about using it. I think Andrew Weil recommends something like twice a day every day. And, obviously, you'd want to make sure you're practicing good foot hygiene as well. Best wishes.

A pharmacist would be a great way to go, especially concerning the over-the-counter cream. However, it has been my experience that when using a cream for athletes foot, scrubbing the affected area throughly, and then applying a different treatment is okay as long as the first treatment did not cause a rash.

No it won't make a difference for the medicine you mention. Try washing your nails in an anti-fungal shampoo. Keep it on the nails for a few minutes. Sometimes that works. It is better than taking the drug that has many side effects.

You should call your doctor, or ask a nurse style hot line, but generally, at least with acne meds and such you should wait 1-2 weeks before starting new treatments
