They say Soccer aka football is gaining in popularity here but ya coulda fooled me. I don't know when it starts (has it started already?) or if we even have a team. Basically.... I don't care for it.

Why are some of you insulting me? I never said American football was better or even America (the United States of America for those that misunderstood that) was better than anybody else. I don't like it but that's just MY opinion. I have read about the World cup and that Soccer's popularity is on the rise here but none of my sports minded friends are interested. It's not talked about on my local sports cast, so I asked if anyone from America (again people in the USA not Central America or South America) were interested.

I am an American, and I do care about the world cup. It is the biggest sporting event in the world next to the olympics. (it only comes around every 4 years) The Usa does have a team with some great players. Landon Donovan, Cladio Reyna, Brian McBride, clint Dempsey should have a great tournament. Goalie Kasey Keller is on his 4th wold cup, although Tim Howard may start. The cup goes from June 9th to July 9th in Germany.
You sound uninformed, so I can help you. I was born and raised in St. Louis, and love baseball, football, and hockey (among other sports) My favorite team is the greatest and most successful NL team in the history of baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals. With that said, soccer is the most popular sport in the world. Professionally, there are bigger sports in the U.S. but amaturely, there is no other sport with more participants, in the U.S. or the rest of the world.
In the world, Soccer is more popular than football, baseball, basketball, and hocket COMBINED. I love watching and following american football (RAMS) and baseball, but I know that these sports don't compare to Soccer, and never will be as big or have more of an impact in the world. Remember the television ratings for the Superbowl or World Series? That won't be 20% of the viewers for this world cup.
I wanted to tell you this so you did'nt sound so stupid to the rest of the world for your comments. Some americans think that we are the best and our opinion is the only one that matters, and this of corse is not true. Your statement shows the ignorance and lack of knowledge of the world.
You know how big the Yankees are and how much they are worth? That is peanuts compared to the popularity and worth of the Manchester United football Club. They are valued at over 1 billion They have 110,000 fans for every game, the yankees don't draw half of that.
Go Cardinals, and Albert Pujols, win one for St. Louis.
Go Team USA, and Landon Donovan, and Brian McBride (from SLU), win for our entire country.

Do you know how many immigrants live in the U.S. (legal + illegal)? I think that at least 60% of those immigrants do care about soccer, and even that is a huge number. I do care about soccer, in fact I care too much. I'm coming from a country where a soccer game can mean everything- the greatest joy and the deepest sorrow. I grew up loving soccer, and life in the U.S. won't change that.

just because its not american made does not mean people are not interstested. there many games being played by a wide verity of people in the USA that do not have there roots here. If our sports meida would broadcast more of these sports like they do baseball, basketball and football then more people would be interested in them and understand them. Then maybe we would more people playing them and getting exercise then sitting in fornt of the tv whatching the high payed players giving half an efforted playing a game.

I love soccer and am very passionate about it. Tons of people in America love the sport. It is all personal opinion. But I do believe that soccer is growing bigger here. Not professionally, but for kids playing in clubs and high school.

you only don't care because you're an american. americans can't think for themselves so they believe whatever everyone else tells them to. if all holy america told you not to like baseball or basketball then you wouldn't. you don't know what you're talking about but then again you're american so your skull contains only peanuts
