They just hate dumb answering machines.
Do you have one of those awfully annoying messages that goes on FOREVER and includes music, badly done, by an 80's band, your cat/dog/kid wailing in the background, and you feel like your trapped until they finish telling you that you can leave a message if you like but your not 'able to come to the phone' because you think if you say 'i am not here' a burglar will burgle your home...yeah, I've heard a couple of those type. If I were a zombie, I would have gotten them. If I were a troll, I would take residence under the house and steal Hostess products from the kitchen at night. (I really like your new avatar of you & your pet, so cute!)

why you ask?
Because - Trolls are always looking to make a commotion they want attention and want you to pay it to them all the time. the more attention a troll can get, the better. So this would not benefit the troll to just hang up when the machine answers... they would leave a strange or copelling message in order to get some sort of response.
A zombie on the other hand is dead - they are dead beats all around. usually telemarketers!! Hate those things. They never leave a message. Just bug you and hang up if you don't answer.

I don't think it helps anyone to call people names; just delete the blank messages. I think it's rude not to leave a message, but some machines pick up on 2 rings; it just the way the owner set it up. I don't run to answer the phone; Caller ID doesn't kick in until several rings, and many people block their name and number. If the call is really important and a reply is requested, leave a message! I think having a phone is just a really rude intrusion. People have forgotten how to politely communicate. Look at how many automated phone calls are made to you!

There's a very simple system to remember which is which.
No message - Zombie is unaware that they are supposed to speak to this non-organic, non-edible machine.
Sound of phone being battered into bits by huge fists and a bigass club - Troll venting frustration.
Message consisting of free-ranging rant about how lucky you are to have such a la-di-da life that you can afford to be out when your friends want to talk to you, including lurid obscentities covering your personality, background and genetic makeup - Ogres
No call whatsoever, even after two weeks - Guy.

Maybe they just don't like answering machines. My mom will NOT leave a message on anyone's machine unless it is a dire emergency! Or maybe you had a really stupid message recorded and they were too busy laughing at it to leave a message for you!

I'm sure there is a more apt comparison, but I would have to choose zombies. Trolls are super-friendly and would leave a message for sure!

I'm going to go with Zombies on this one, because they are mindless, droning idiots. They drool and slather about without paying attention to what they are doing--they only want to eat your brains.
But Trolls on the other hand are blathering annoyances who try to leave 30 minute messages that make absolutely no sense whatsoever.
So, I'm going with Zombies.
