We can afford to be a little cavalier with our diets when we are young. But once we reach 40 – as Hollywood actor Jude Law will later this year – the way our bodies cope with everything we eat begins to change.
Studies suggest that the amount of energy burnt while resting begins to drop by the age of 30, and by a further seven per cent with every subsequent decade, so if you continue eating as you did in your 20s, you’ll start putting on weight.
From our fourth decade onwards, the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes becomes a concern – lead an unhealthy lifestyle and your cholesterol levels and blood pressure will rise. The good news is there are foods proven to fight these concerns. Here are the items I would advise everyone over 40 to stock up on.

At least I'm not vulgar! - eglwys , shangri la, Now, now, ladies. Keep it clean. And it's not a typo if you use lower case for you title and address which should be Eglwys, Shangri La. that's just text speak. - Resnam, Sandbanks, 28/10/2012 22:01........I hadn't realised James was a lady. Sorry Madam, but your language is not very ladylike! Seriously Resnam, I believe James was taking me to task for typing "calve".. I'm happy with my title and address fhough, even if you would prefer me to use initial capitals, but did you realise you had typed you, not your? See, we all do it!

If he's a writer, maybe one of those wonderfully expensive special pens I saw in Oprah's magazine one time would be a great gift. They are really beautiful and would be considered something to hand down to the next generation too.
If he likes to read, find a book in the genre he loves, maybe one that is a best seller right now.
To combine the two, buy him a beautiful leather bound 8X11 sized journal (blank) so he can write (with his new pen!) maybe the next best seller!!

Wow ... sounds like a great husband and Dad...
I would suggest, purchasing him a leatherbound blank journal with a monogram plate on the front of it and a very nice pen, so that he can start writing a book of his adventures. You can add to this a class on creative writing (always good to take a class as everyone can improve on anything) to jump start his new book.

You could order a journal or something personal with a family picture or his favorite picture on it. I use shutterfly and they have a fathers day sale going on right now, plus free shipping. I received mine about 4 days after I ordered it.

How about a leatherbound travel journal. It gives him something to lookforward to filling up in the future.
