I'd say it would have to have something to do with some kind of suffering, (Christ and his crown of thorns?) most likely, the kind of suffering one does in a penitentiary for long periods of time.
I know barbed wire is fairly commonplace among prison inmates who've done long stretches of time behind the walls... Usually the web of barbed wire indicates how many years a person served inside.
Maybe your armband of thorns is something along these lines, too.

I would probably choose to get a tattoo of the infinite sign with the quote "And in that moment, I swear we were infinite" from a book I read called The Perks of Being A Wallflower. I'd probably put it somewhere around my rib or hip area.

well theres so many things people do it. A) because it just looks cool or B) it represents the crown of thorns for jesus suffering which symbolically means he bled for are evil thoughts.

There is no symbolism except that which the owner of it attached to it ....it was simply a fad in the tatoo industry for a while.
