I leave mine on all the time and the dell guy told me to turn it off a couple of hours a day.

Make sure you have a screen saver that moves or something because if the screen sits to long it can burn the image into your monitor

Depends on who you talk to. To save electric and do the least damage turning it off and on a good rule of thumb is that if the system will be off at least 8 hours, turn it off. If there is a lot of lightening in the area turn it off and unplug it. Otherwise it should be left on.

i usually leave it on most of the time and turn off the monitor when i leave

when i know that i will be gone for a long time i hibernate the computer

Much much better for the environment to turn it off.

The only thing you are likely to damage (and mine has been OK for 3 years) is the PSU....they are cheap and easy to replace.....our world is irreplaceable....come on guys let's get Green.
