Let's do some quick math.

Let's say that you want to avoid $5 in tolls and go the back road.

With stops, lights, traffic, you are likely to burn gas at a faster rate. So instead of getting 30 miles per gallon, you'll get 25.

So for every 25 miles of driving, you loose another 1/5th of a gallon. If you are driving 125 miles, you loose a whole gallon of gas.

Now let's compare running the back streets at 40 miles per hour, instead of 65 miles per hour. Just how much more time did you want to take on this trip?

The highways are better maintained, so the likelyhood of a flat tire is less.

The highways will probably have less traffic at this time of year, so the likelyhood of an accident on the highway is less.

Just maybe to buck or two that you might save is worth it to you?

Good luck.

Hard to answer your question without knowing which resort your heading to.

I-4 is the non-toll road in Orlando. You can take that highway into a local road to whatever resort you are going to.

If you are going to Disney, I-4 will take you directly there. Just ask someone at the airport (once you disembark off the plane) on which road takes you to I-4. Most rental car companies will give you a free map if you are renting a car.
