Recent statistics show a decline of graduating scientists and engineers from our universities. This appears to be a threat to tech businesses and our country as a world leader. The shift seems to begin as early as middle school. What are kids pursuing and why?

graduating with a techie bachelors... It was tough for me to get a job. when i got a job the pay was too little. So ended up doing a masters... and still had a tough time..
Next thing i did was apply for med school and i've more internship offers than i've had before..

It's for economic reasons, i'm assuming... Either it's not enough pay, or companies want the best of the best.

It sounds normal... i give it about another 5 years.. there are going to be more engineers.

There could be many reason, but I believe that a big one is schools are focused more on math and language arts. They spend hours on each on these, and very little time in science.
The reason they spend so much time on these subjects is because of the testing in schools. The state/national tests focus on math and language arts, so the schools spend the majority of time with those subjects.

I don't know about everyone else but many people, including me are just not good at it no matter how hard we try. And the rest who don't do it just finds it boring, hope that answers your question.

they just want to find the easy way out. they try to ignore the diificult things and won't even spend time to try. sometimes they don't find anyone who encourage them to continue in science and things like that.
