The horseshoe seems to have been introduced to Western culture by the Greeks in the 4th Century
and the blacksmith would mess up a horse shoe he would throw it in a corner, so one day one of his workers nailed one up on the door way and he said by facing it up..it keeps all the GOOD LUCK inside of it..and they also sold them to others telling them about the Good Luck the hose shoe brings if you have it facing upwards..and so it goes back that far and that's about when it started

The reason to place the horseshoe with the open end up is/was so that all the good luck would remain in the shoe, if you put the open end face down, the good luck would run out of it.
As far as the who part, you got me, but just have faith, and sometimes realize that some questions are better left unanswered.......

Don't know but if it would get me a beautiful blond with a nice pair of legs in daisy dukes wearing a cowboy hat, I'm getting me a horse shoe right now!!! lol ;)

it was because all the horses died when the horse shoe was facing down but when it got turned around only the horses got injured half as much =p
