You can't pay a court fine in small change as they can refuse it as not legal tender for that amount. Legal tender meens they have to accept it. This means Scotish bank notes are not even legal tender in Scotland! They do not have to acept then even if they may well do.

It is unlimited for notes, but there is usually a limit on coins.
