Actually Ashley, it is often the simplest and overlooked things that I see as beautiful. It usually involves acts of kindness and love. I was at a County Anniversary near Brandywine Battlefield here in Pennsylvania, and I was "in the moment" and enjoying the atmosphere and I was watching a young 3 year old girl with long hair just innocently observing everything. I noticed that she was holding a blank expression until she looked at me. She smiled and waved and she really touched my heart. I was going through a lot of things in the days before that and her simple gesture made up for it all.

dreams.
but they turn so ugly when they break.
eyes and tears.
when a patient gets better, the sparkle of momentary light which conveys gratitude and prayers of such immense magnitude that it overwhelms. Its not just a thing of beauty, it matters in life.
when somebody said a kind word, the relief I felt in my being has been more than beautiful.
Words and phrases don't suffice when it comes to describing those things which really are beautiful.

A patient I had a couple of years ago who had open heart surgery...after I removed the ET (breathing tube) tube from her, she looked up at me with her sweet old voice and said , thank you for being my guardian angel, she then reached up and patted me on my cheek.....it was the most tender moment I had experienced in my job. It was beautiful to me because in this world of meanness among humans, a stranger touched my heart with her sincerity.

I saw an apartment building on fire one time. I watched as a fireman went inside the burning building and emerged with a little boy and handed him to his mother. His mother fell to her knees as she kissed and hugged her child and thanked the fireman. That was so beautiful and I've never forgotten it.
