I dont really trust any free antivirus protection thats in the web. I think my computer is too important to put free software on it because I would rather pay for protection to ensure that its getting the best protection from the outside world. I use mcafee, and norton is pretty secure too. The only reason why I choose a popular PAID virus protection is because since they have the money and the funds, they have the resources to update our computer with the most current viruses that are out there. If a software is free, do you honestly think they will give you the most updated protection from viruses? Why would they spend on resources if you are using their program for free? How do you know that they are not trying to get their program in your system just so they can break into your computer and steal vital information from you?

If you really care about the information in your computer and if you dont want to spend thousands of dollars replacing your system, I dont think paying for virus protection would be such a bad thing. But thats just my opinion.

I have the feeling that avast and the other free antivirus providers are just trying to get customers to use their product for now, but one day they will definitely start charging for their services. If there is an upgrade paid version, then I would find out what the upgrade version does that the free version doesnt.

the best anti-virus i have found is at wal-mart for about $25 and it is v-com's fix-it utilities and if you spend $40 you can get pro version that has a excellent firewall and ghost surf and programs to help fix your computer or you can get it from http://www.v-com.com that's their website
