Do a search at thumpertalk.com for the problem, lots of experienced folks on that forum. There is a section specific to your bike, I'm sure you will be better served by the forum than by asking here.

If it started suddenly I would suspect an intake leak that would cause it to lean out. a quick way to check is to start the bike when it is cold(do not try this on a hot engine!)and use a can of starting fluid which is just ether. spray small shots of it around the base of the carb and intake area and see if the engine speeds up at all if it does there is a leak. just find the spot where it causes the speed increase and that is the leak. I have used this method many time on bikes and cars, it work great. Hopes this helps.

Idling high...hmmm that sounds like it isn't getting enough gas, my bike idles high after it has been stored for a while. I know when I give it a little more gas, and take her out for a bit, and then idle her she purrs! The glowing means it is probably getting too hot too quick. I would tune her up a bit, perhaps take her entirely apart, or see a mechanic if you aren't a fixer. But good luck and happy ridings to you!

You're running much too lean, and probably have the idle too high, because a lean bike wont run without some throttle. Adjust the mixture to richen the mixture, and you should be able to set the idle at a lower speed. Do it soon before you burn a valve.

i'm sure you've already tried to turn the idle down. it sounds like it's running lean, if the fuel (or air) mixture screw won't richen it up then it's probably a clogged idle jet. the float level could be way too high, this isn't likely the problem but worth checking while you're in there.

Sounds like your fuel mix is lean, better to fowl a plug than fry an engine
