You raise the bar of accepted minimums. If you were accepting of your child getting at least a C+ but then was given a tutor by was of a volunteer program etc. Then you might tell the child that you are raising the bar. the minimum grade accepted has gone up from a C+ to a solid B or better. A man goes to work at a fabric store. The average bolts of cloth sold a week per individual is, say, 15. But he sold 32 a week for 3 weeks straight. The other workers might say he raised the bar on how much the boss will start to expect each worker to sell weekly because he now seen it could be done.
