Probably the age of the person looking at the three words. A davenport was used prior to World War Two-- A couch is a sofa-- but stiffer seating. A sofa is today's davenport/couch-- usually softer and we like laying on them to watch TV. Dagwood uses a sofa-- Mr. Mitchell probably has a couch.....
