I'm a freshman in high school and 15 years old. I am 6'2'' without shoes on and with cleats I'm closer to 6'3''. I weigh about 200 pounds and throw anywhere from 75-78 with my fastball. I have never been really instructed on how to use my body in pitching, so I know I'm throwing almost all with my arm. I have very long, strong legs with big calves and thighs. I was wondering what there was to do to develop or gain speed on my fastball?

Other information:
I have a three quarters arm slot
do not have a high leg kick (like clemens does)
My arms are very weak, I have little muscle in them
I'm almost done growing. X-Rays revealed growth plates were almost closed. I have about an inch to gain.

I have a good curve and cutter and a two seamer that moves about two feet down and away to left handers, so I just need to boost my speed. Accuracy si there also. At the level I'm at, I am able to blow away pitchers and strike out 7-10 a game, but I want to be able ot play in college.

Your bones are almost done growing but you have plenty of time to add natural muscle. You will bulk up naturally as you get older...much like Clemens has. Try extra squat concentration to add strength in your lower body. Adding lower body strength will give you a great foundation to work from. You might notice a lot of big leaguers don't have huge arms. Also work on flexibility in your upper body. If you can increase your range of motion it will allow you to produce more inertia...which will produce more velocity. Most of all you have plenty of time to develop...don't force yourself into thinking you're done growing...and for crying out loud stay away from the juice. Good luck with the heater.

this is simple my brother is the same age as you well a little older then you he throws about 88 and is being looked at by major league scouts at the moment. I'll tell you how he got his fastball to be around the late eighties. All the kid did was run and run and run. He has been doing this since he was a freshman in high school and now he's a junior. He also had a great work ethic and threw alot of long tosses and most of all he never throw a curve ball till he was around his sophmore year in high school. And even then he doesn't throw it. Develop a nice change up by the way. Also just make sure ur legs are real strong. All the power is generally coming from your legs and when pitching also make sure u push off nicely. Try to get a trainer tell your parents you are serious about making the next step. But most importantly don't use drugs or none of that nonsense like my cousin tito who was drafted to the major leagues and got addicted. By the way i kno you heard of manny rameriz my cousin was better then him when entering the draft and my cousin was supposed to be the next big thing. Till he got involved. So there you go those are some ez steps good luck towards your future give me a shout out when you make it

Good mechanics are key to throwing harder. The site below is for Tom House, a pitcher and pitching coach who mentored Nolan Ryan, Roger Clemens, and several other legendary big-leauge players. There are books and videos on his site which are very helpful. You will want to perfect your mechanics and do heavy weights for the legs and very light weights in specific exercises for your rotator cuff and the small muscles in your arms. You can find pitching-specific exercises through this site or searching Amazon.com. Finally, work hard an have patience. You are young and your muscle mass will not completely fill out until you are 18-24 - work hard consistently to reach your goal and you can make it happen!

speed is a strange thing, avg in the bigs is 89. must instructors will tell u that power comes from the legs and the turning of the hips. i 2 was a pitcher, high 90's. played 2AA and then broke shoulder. i found that my legs would seem to burn after a great game. also the glove hand. 2 many people over look it. remember that its a point and pull with the glove hand. that allows u to open ur hips on the pull of it.

Im a baseball player myself in NJ and im a pitcher for varsity. I have a 90 MPH fastball and im way smaller than you. i know how you feel because im moving opn to college in a few weeks and im trying to improve. inside your a monster and you just need to learn the proper techniques. first of all, you need to got weight training and do plentyofbench pressing. afterwards grab a medicine ball ( the heavy ones) and look for a 5 LB one. throw it up against a gate about 40-50 times a day and as it gets lighter throw a bit harder. once it does buy a ten LB medicine ball and throw till it gets light. hopefully if you keep at it and learn the 5 step drill you'll be throwing 90-95 MPH in a matter of months.Hope my techniques help you out and if you need anymore help, e-mail me with questions you have

examine the full concern previously you bypass over this. long toss has no fee for pitching. lifting weights will develop threat of injury for throwing a baseball. weighted balls do no longer artwork for each individual. long toss would not artwork with the aid of fact while your pitching, are you aloud to take a crow hop? no, your no longer. and your throwing the ball bigger interior the air than once you pitch. weight lifting would not artwork with the aid of fact baseball isn't a game of capability. look at a number of the smaller adult adult males interior the mlb. tim lincecum, 5'10 a hundred and seventy lbs and every person is conscious how demanding he throws. a number of skinnier pitchers can hit extreme 90s with the aid of fact they are EXPLOSIVE. you would be able to desire to do plyometrics. they are explosive physique-weight excercises. google them in the adventure that your uncertain what they are. EDIT: in case you dont raise weights and use the stunning mechanics to stay injury unfastened, you're on the stunning music to play D1.
