I am no expert so I need to make sure my house isn't going to burn down.

My dryer is in the garage and if I put it where it was supposed to go my car would have to be be in the driveway. So to extend the reach of the 6 foot standard (10AWGx4) cord I bought two and joined them like this:

I cut the plug end off of one of the six foot cords and cut off the round connectors on the other. Stripped them both and connected them together using a heavy duty ("safe" w/ some goo inside) wire nut connector. I then wrapped each in heavy electrical tape and then wraped the bunch together using electrical tape.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

By the way, these were 4 prong 30 amp cords

OK, thanks for the responses so far. I unplugged it from the wall and will call someone to have it moved tomorrow.

no it is not safe. You need to purchase a longer cord and possibly move up to a # 8 wire to handle the additional length. The joint you have made will eventually heat up and can cause a fire. You have weakend the connection when you cut off the ends

No it is not.

Not safe nor wise. For some reason if you hook up any heavy electrical appliance you create a small firehazard. No biggy.
BUT
With every connection you make beyond the original or modification of that connection the chance of it causing a fire is multiplied by the number of times it did not burn your house down.

If you have to use extention cord:
1) Use the right one.
2) Don't use it as a habit and disconnect after use.
3) Use only one.
4) Think up something better. (like move the machine to an outlet or the outlet to the machine. Outsource your laundry)

You would be better off moving the outlet closer to where you want the dryer and using a standard cord.

Not recomended, Your much safer Having your electrician relocate the Outlet and staying with a 6ft or shorter cord.

Texas Heaven you have given me (us) a quick glimpse what might desire to be any-ones existence. To me, it particularly is the metaphorical premise of the poem, no longer the questions according to se (cept final one), although your reason might desire to be to steer us to the final stanza >>>>sure, sure, sure ...and finally the final of it. I knew this became maximum proper some the place and your close, a single sentence >> "Did ya cuss God _______ it is amazingly introspective piece to assert the least, and one which i'm grateful of His grace, in spite of the indisputable fact that my answer is regrettably: sure _______________________________________...
