you can do this once or twice but each time you do it,you are making it harder to get the old ones up at a later time and it gives you room for debris and garbage to slip under the others.I would recommend using a heat gun and a flat blade and taking the old ones up but that depends on the quality of the finished product you are shooting for

Yes. To get the best results, keep the following in mind:

1: Buy the thickest, best quality tile you can afford. Thicker tiles will hold up better and are less likely to allow underflooring to show through.

2: Prep the existing floor well. Fill gaps, wash with TSP. This will allow for the best adhesion possible.

3: Use addition glue (especially if they are self adhesive tiles). Not too much, perhaps five dots (outer corners and center) and press firmly ( I used a rolling pin to enure that there was even pressure to the entire tile).

4; Be patient. Going too quickly will cause tiles to "shift".

I would advise that you don't. But you can put a floating timber floor on top.
