yes, your machine should be able to run any game out there, although it won't give the best performance possible on some of the more demanding titles...
i'd say that as long as you don't want all graphics/lighting etc at the highest possible settings, then your pc should do the trick.

you have the same specs as me except my pentium 4 is 3.2ghz,anyway you should be able to play high spec games but try using low resolution as the radeon 9250 is not the best of cards for gaming but will run most games up to 1024x768
make sure you get the latest drivers from
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293 and go into add\remove and use the ati software uninstall utility to remove your current drivers before you install the new ones
if you are planning a upgrade ,i would recommend a memory module,at least 512mb as this would aid smooth running of games and will take stress of your p.c
if you want a graphic card upgrade you should look at the x800 series, but they are expensive, the next card up from the 9250 is the 9550,but when buying a card you should be looking for the pixel and shader model no.
the 9250 uses pixel and shader model 1.0 and most games now like doom require 2.0 and above to run really well
your best bet is to get a nvidia ge-force fx5500 which has pixel and shader 2.0 and you can get a 128mb card from http://www.dabs.com/productlist.aspx?&NavigationKey=11137&NavigationKey=376240000&CategorySelectedId=11137&PageMode=1
and there are some cracking deals also on that site
anyway i hope i have helped you,its nice to know there are other people using similar p.cs,so if you take the advice i have given you ,you should have better gaming no problem
good luck

The trouble with PC games is that the hardware is constantly chasing the software. In other words, developers are always writing games that need increasingly powerful PCs to make the most of them. They don't have to work to a universal standard of computer; they just want to push the envelope and this puts more and more demand on the capabilities of the computers that have to run the games.
Your computer is fine right now, but give it six months and I guarantee you will need more RAM and a better graphics card. My advice would be to buy a Xbox 360. The wireless controllers are fantastic, the graphics are awesome, it produces high-definition pictures on the right TV, and it also works as an all-in-one entertainment system. The best bit, of course, is that developers have a fixed piece of technology to work with, so they spend time trying to eek the most from what they've got, rather than writing sprawling programs that you need a Cray to run. Plus, they have to get it right first time, so there's no faulty coding that need patches to repair!
The Xbox will be future-proof for the next couple of years, and it will cost less than the upgrades your PC will need to keep running top-end software. Go out and buy one!

to get great performance upgrade your graphics card, you could also add another 512 MB of RAM but it's not critical.
9250 not a great card, but might play most games.

I would say yes. You could upgrade the memory to 1 gb
You did not say what sound card you have . Make sure it is one that can support all the latest sound and media
