A lot of colleges are recognized. I think it depends on what college you study from. Good luck.

You may not get as far with the online degree. Of course there are degrees online that are accredited, but employers won't be as impressed. Part of getting a degree is just proving that you have the time and the commitment to get up and go to class. Online degrees are a fad in my opinion, and if I were going to spend the money on a degree, I would make sure that it was going to be a good investment.
There are some colleges that have regular compuses with well recognized names that offer online degrees in addition to their regular programs. These types of degrees are best. You should check with different schools to see if the diploma will say online or not.
Also very important would be to check with bankers in London. They would tell you what the industry expects.
I live in a small town in America, and even here, most people don't hold online degrees in high regard. Online degrees have that late night infomercial aura about them.
Do some research into schools and the industry expectations, and proceed with caution.

Hi, I have recently signed up to complete a degree at the Open University. This is a recognised qualitfication, and does not have the limitations of a structured timescale. You can study when you have the time, and have the constant support of tutors without having to leave your home. All course material comes to your home, and can be used when convenient. Good luck.

Open University is a good place to start, or any distance learning course from a reputable established university. Stay clear of colleges you've never never heard of, as their diploma courses tend to be in-house diplomas, rather than nationally recognised qualifications.
A bit of internet searching and some good research won't do any harm. Also check on what support is available to distance learners by the course providers - are tutors available to be contacted by email? Do they provide materials online? Distance learning library resources?
